Ed Hearn The Speaker
“Working with Ed is a breeze! They don’t call him EASY ED for nothing!”
The Backdrop
Ed Hearn has stepped up to the plate countless times with the “game of life” on the line. He has lived that which most speakers can only talk about. When he speaks about becoming “a champion of life” and overcoming tremendous change and challenges, he speaks from experience.
From the trenches of being a major league catcher to battling life-threatening health issues, Ed Hearn, Certified Speaking Professional (2001), has developed a mental toughness and a well-nurtured perspective that each of us must have in order to be effective in today’s demanding climate of rapid change. Yes, he is very entertaining, captivating and motivating, but what makes him so uniquely special is his genuine desire to empower and uplift those around him in a very transparent and personal way. His speaking is simply an extension of his way of life.
In the batter’s box of life, Ed Hearn has lived an extreme range of life-changing experiences that make him a perfect fit as a speaker for a wide range of audiences, topics and meeting objectives. He is passionate about taking the nasty curves thrown his way and turning them into homeruns of significance for himself and his fellow teammates in this journey called life. As he often says:
“I could have played ten or fifteen years in the big leagues and never have made the impact I am called to have today – not through my strength or greatness, but rather through the humbling of adversities which seeded a perspective and focus on living a life of far greater success and significance.”
Gleaming from a lifetime of reaching life’s mountain tops, while experiencing the darkness of its deepest valleys, Ed Hearn is the antithesis of today’s modern-day athletes. Certainly his celebrity status of being a former Major League ballplayer often initially attracts many to ask him to speak, but be it young or old, executive or blue-collar worker, his audiences walk away remembering him not so much as an athlete, but more as a man who has had a dramatic effect on the way they view their own lives and challenges they face. They speak of being uplifted and inspired with a renewed spirit of hope and motivation to pursue victory in all areas of their lives no matter what the challenge or adversity.
Ed Hearn was the first current or former professional athlete from our country’s six major pro sports to receive the highest earned designation in professional speaking, the CSP® (Certified Speaking Professional) from the National Speakers Association. Less than 10% of all speakers worldwide hold the CSP® designation!
Ed's Approach
I like to use my vast personal experience to meet the audience in the “dugout” of their current circumstances. My goal is to empower your team to charge back onto the field with a renewed passion and commitment, a changed greater appreciation for the importance of communication, the need for REAL teamwork, and other new tools to better equip them for victory…NOT some regurgitated, canned speech that has been told word-for-word to hundreds of different groups.
No two baseball games are ever the same and neither are the strategies used for playing them. Each audience deserves a tailored game plan; one that will reach deep into their heart and soul, challenging and inspiring them through real life, ‘been-there-done-that’ personal stories. My objective, in a humorous and openhearted way, is to have them see themselves and feel a personal connection with me through my journey. The goal is for “team” to leave our time together with a new perspective, hope and encouragement – one they can and will find victory and success in whatever challenges they may be facing. Then, ultimately they can be even more than a success…they can be significant as they take these tools of transformation from your event, multiplying the impact at home, work, and even in their communities.
To do this WE will start with “The Scouting Report.” This preprogram questionnaire gives me more than just directions to your meeting location- it helps me understand all the details, needs, and challenges of your audience. I will then draw up an initial game plan gleamed from my extensive spectrum of life experiences. We then will reconnect and to review and discuss any thoughts, suggestions or ideas you might have to tweak the program so we are prepared to deliver the “perfect pitch” to your group – one they’ll be talking about for years to come.
This is the process I have been using for more than thirty years to hit “home runs” at one conference after another. I hope this helps! Remember, always “KEEP SWINGING FOR LIFE’S FENCE!”
Please note, in the very unlikely case that, after reviewing the needs of your group, I do not feel I have the experience and expertise to fulfill the goals and objectives of your event, I will simply decline the engagement and assist in any way possible to help you find the perfect speaker…period. No hard feelings. (This has never happened…but it’s just my commitment to every group I’m privileged to work with).
“It is really exciting to know a man like Ed Hearn – a former MLB player whose head is squarely placed upon his shoulders and who is striving to make a positive difference in the lives of all he meets.”
